Description

The School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Research Officer in the Politics of Migration. This full-time position is fixed-term, tenable from 1 October 2013, until 30 September 2016.

The Postdoctoral Research Officer will conduct research on the political impacts of migration, with funds provided for a limited time by the Leverhulme Trust. The position is affiliated with the Russian and East European Studies Programme.

The School is looking for the best possible candidate working within the field of politics – either the politics of migration or the politics of Eastern Europe or both. The postholder will be responsible to the Principle Investigator, Dr Gwendolyn Sasse.

The postholder will be expected to play an active part in shaping the conceptual, methodological and empirical underpinnings of the project. He/she will be involved in the background research, the data collection, the fieldwork and some of the publications based on the project findings. The post is based at the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, Bevington Road, Oxford.

Eligibility

The candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • A doctoral degree in political science or a related discipline.
  • Sufficient specialist knowledge of the subject area (either the politics of migration or the politics of Eastern Europe or both).
  • Knowledge of at least one East European language relevant to the project.
  • A track record of at least two excellent quality publications in highly-ranked, peer reviewed academic journals and/or major presses.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience of carrying out independent research (desirable).

Funding between £29,249 – £35,938 p.a.
