Languages Through Lenses 2011

Deadline: 25 March 2011
Open to: students in their3rd, 4th or 5th year of study at ELIA and CILECT member institutions in the 27 European Union Member States and in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Turkey
Grant: 5000 € for producing the audiovisual production

ELIA – European League of Institutes of the Arts – in cooperation with CILECT- International Association of Film and Television Schools – is organising this competition on behalf of the European Commission and in partnership with PRIX EUROPA.

The European Union has a strategy on multilingualism with a focus on cultural diversity, based on the motto ‘United in Diversity’.

We are looking for proposals for new audiovisual productions that are innovative, witty, creative, unexpected, motivating and that explore the potential of multilingualism and the challenges it creates. The proposals should deliver a clear message, be self-explanatory and easily understandable to a broad public with different backgrounds and mother tongues.

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from students in their third, fourth or fifth year of study at ELIA and CILECT member institutions in the 27 European Union Member States and in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Turkey.

Guidelines

• Use any European language or a combination of languages
• Use any digital technique
• No subtitling / no dubbing
• Music rights: only music with pre-cleared rights or music commissioned specifically for the piece will be accepted
Length minimum 60 seconds, maximum 90 seconds

2. Upload: on this website between 15 February and 25 March 2011
The upload has to include the following documents:
– Summary of the project (max. 400 words).
– Script containing a detailed description of the envisaged story, the main characters and the shooting locations. (The description of the story can take the form of a written document or a storyboard.)
– Production and post-production timeline.
– Detailed budget of 5000 €.
– CV’s and motivations of the applicant and supervising teacher (or someone closely involved in the production).
– A link to previous work (max. two minutes).

Grant

* production grant of 5000 € for producing the audiovisual production.
* workshop organised in Amsterdam on 16-18 May 2011 with high profile experts in the field of scriptwriting and short film production. (Travel, hotel and participation costs will be covered for two persons per selected project)
* finalised audiovisual productions will be presented during the PRIX EUROPA Festival in Berlin (22 to 29 October 2011)  (Travel and hotel costs will be covered for two persons per selected project)
* DVD of the audiovisual productions will be produced and widely distributed to television stations and festivals.

Timeline

– 25 March 2011: Deadline application
– 18 April 2011: ELIA will announce the 15 winners
– 16-18 May 2011: Workshop in Amsterdam
– 9 September 2011: Delivery of the completed audiovisual productions
– 22–29 October 2011: PRIX EUROPA Festival in Berlin
