PhD Scholarships at PIER Helmholtz Graduate School in Germany

Description

PIER Helmholtz Graduate School is inviting applications for up to six available PhD scholarships to conduct scientific research. Scholarships are awarded in the following research fields:

  • Particle and Astroparticle Physics;
  • Nanoscience;
  • Photon Science;
  • Infection and Structural Biology;
  • Accelerators;
  • Theoretical Physics.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible you must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Have outstanding master’s degree in physics, chemistry, biology, other science subjects, or in mathematics or medicine.
  • Social involvement;
  •  Identification with the values and principles of the Joachim Herz Foundation;

Scholarship

The Joachim Herz scholarships provide doctoral candidates with outstanding conditions in which to conduct scientific research. The scholarships ensure doctoral candidates considerable financial leeway and consist of the following elements:

  • Basic allowance: EUR 1,800 (per month for 3 years);
  • Equipment and language courses: EUR 5,000 (if required);
  • Allowance to enable the recipient to take part in international conferences and research semesters and conduct work in research labs: EUR 9,000 (for three years);
  • Allowance to organize a joint event in cooperation with other fellowship recipients of the Joachim Herz Foundation in the second or third year of their doctoral studies: up to a total EUR 12,000

  • CV;
  • BA and/or Master certificate including transcript of records;
  • Bachelor/Master certificate should state the Grade Point Average (GPA) corresponding to the Anglo-American grading system;
  • Motivation letter/statement of purpose (SoP);
  • PhD students in their first year: Written proof from supervisor about the beginning of the PhD project;
  • Master students currently reaching the completion of their studies: forecast of expected grades and transcript of records;
