Description
The Schlumberger Foundation is a nonprofit entity that supports science, engineering and technology education. Recognizing the link between science, engineering, technology, and socio-economic development, as well as the key role of education in realizing individual potential, The Schlumberger Foundation’s flagship program, is Faculty for the Future.
Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or post-doctoral studies in the physical sciences, engineering and technology at leading universities abroad. The Faculty for the Future program is growing each year and has become a powerful community of 257 women scientists from 62 countries. The long-term goal of the Faculty for the Future program is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing academic careers in scientific disciplines thus contributing to the socio-economic development of their home countries and regions. Ultimately they are expected to return to their home countries to continue their academic careers, to further their research, to teach and to become inspirational role models for other young women.
The Schlumberger Foundation is now accepting new applications for the 2015–2016 Faculty for the Future Fellowships.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for this fellowship you must:
- Be a female and a citizen of a developing country or emerging economy;
- Be preparing for PhD or postdoctoral studies in the physical sciences, engineering and related disciplines;
- Be currently enrolled,have been admitted or have applied to a host university/research institute abroad;
- Have a proven track record of teaching experience;
- Hold an excellent academic record;
- Demonstrate active participation in faculty life and outreach programs to encourage young women to pursue studies in the sciences;
- Be willing to contribute to the socio-economic development of your home country and region by strengthening the faculties in your home universities, pursuing relevant research, or using your specific expertise to address public policy matters.
Fellowship
Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs for eligible expenses up to a maximum of USD 50,000 (approx. €39,000) per year. Grants are awarded on a one-year basis, and may be renewed through to completion of PhD or post-doc study subject to performance, outreach and collaboration initiatives, and recommendations from supervisors.
