Description
The PhD Position of Bio-Nanoparticles at the VU University Amsterdam is focused on the biophysical properties of nano-particles and proteins. The researchers want to develop a versatile flow-sell system for imaging and manipulation of natural occurring nano-particles such as viruses and vesicles, and to perform force spectroscopy experiments on single proteins and DNA- proteins interactions. The project is focused on fundamental biophysical research and there is a clear technique development component as well. The PhD student will be sharing the lab with 2 group leaders of the Physics Department of VU University of Amsterdam; will experimentally study these biophysical systems and participate in technique development in the field of of AFM and optical microscopy. The main research technique is Atomic Force Microscopy.
Eligibility
The PHD position is available to candidates who are talented, ambitious and highly motivated researchers and who meet the following requirements:
- Msc. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or other related field;
- Have a strong interest in interdisciplinary, experimental research;
- Preferably have knowledge of and experience with AFM;
- Preferably have knowledge of and experience with computer programming.
Scholarship
The salary will be in accordance with the University regulations for academic personnel, and amounts of 2,062 euros – gross per month in the first year, and up to 2,664 euros in the fourth year – based on a full-time employment. The appointment will be initially for one year. After satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, it can be extended for a total duration of 4 years.
