Description

Barnet Refugee Service is a successful and dynamic organisation providing advice, information and support to refugees and asylum seekers across the London Borough of Barnet and surrounding boroughs. It is a charitable organisation formed by the merging of two established projects, the Refugee Health Access Project (managed by Barnet Voluntary Service Council) and the Asylum Seekers Project (Managed by Homeless Action in Barnet).  Barnet Refugee Service has been an independent charity since April 2005. They provide advice, information and support to asylum seekers and refugees on a variety of issues including asylum support, housing, welfare benefits, immigration matters (OISC Level 1) and health.

Much of their work is directly health focused. They provide advice on access to local health services and are closely involved in policy work with local health authorities that impacts on asylum seekers and refugees, for example the access to and use of interpreters, overseas charging and the provision of counselling and psychotherapeutic services for adults and young people.

Barnet Refugee Service wishes to appoint an experienced refugee adviser with a speciality in health and social care to join their busy advice service. You will provide advice and guidance on issues such as accessing welfare benefits, housing, employment and training and especially health to Asylum Seekers/ Refugees both at their office, by phone and at other locations across Barnet.

Eligibility

You will need significant experience of direct advice work with Asylum Seekers/ Refugees, working with health services and extensive knowledge of the health issues facing Asylum Seekers/ Refugees and the resources available to help them. You will also have the ability to provide training and workshops, to be a strong team player with excellent negotiation and communication skills, and an ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.

Remuneration
