Description
Established in 2007, the Bayer Science & Education Foundation honors outstanding research achievements, assists talented young scientists and supports important scholastic projects. The support projects focus on science, technology and medicine. The Bayer Cares Foundation promotes voluntary projects by Bayer employees and citizens. It also helps people who find themselves in a situation of acute hardship following natural disasters, for example, through immediate relief and reconstruction projects.
Otto Bayer scholarships are open to students in their advanced study period. Disciplines receiving support are:
- Biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, biological process engineering, bioinformatics
- Chemistry, chemical engineering, material sciences and environmental sciences
- Pharmaceutics and drug discovery
- Physics
- Medical sciences
Bayer supports study projects, internships, summer courses, preparatory and supplementary study courses, as well as theses and doctoral studies (the program does not include post-doctoral scholarships).
Scholarship
Support is generally intended to cover the cost of living, travel costs and incurred project costs. Each applicant can request a specific amount of support by submitting a “cost plan”, and the Board of Trustees then comes to a decision based on this request.
The scholarship is paid out in installments according to an individually agreed payment plan. The project costs consist of study fees, lab materials, books, seminars, language courses and lectures.
Eligibility
The foundation places great emphasis on internationalism, and therefore scholarships are granted exclusively to students from German-speaking countries wishing to study abroad and foreign applicants who want to study in Germany.
Applicants should be able to show good to very good final school marks as well as a particularly good intermediate diploma or an above-average bachelor’s exam. Furthermore, a broad horizon and a high level of motivation and personal commitment are expected of all applicants – be it in a social, political or cultural field.
Applicants should already have a specific research project, as well as as a written acceptance by the institution at which the project will be realized.
Application
The next application period for the Otto Bayer Scholarships will be from June 1 until July 15, 2012.
