The ERRC seeks qualified applicants for the position Communications Officer. Reporting to the Programmes Director, the Communications Officer helps to ensure the highest standards in the delivery of ERRC communications tools, by providing strong drafting and editing skills, strong analysis and effective communication skills.
Eligibility
- University degree in communications, public relations, human rights, or a related field.
- At least two years experience working in a communications environment.
- Strong native-level English language writing, editing and speaking skills required; ability to concisely present ERRC positions; other languages desirable (Romani, French, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Czech, Slovak, Romanian, Serbian, Macedonian).
- Proven experience drafting and editing communications materials for a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant issues, structures and contacts; proven ability to cultivate contacts and develop networks.
- Social media and multi-media knowledge.
- Attentive to deadlines, flexible and able to deal with high workload.
- Strong team player; proven ability to work in a diverse team; able to work independently.
- Significant experience living and working in Romani communities is desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of Roma rights.
- Willingness to travel for work, either alone or with colleagues.
Areas of Responsibility
- Content development: draft letters of concern, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, website content, advocacy submissions and other materials.
- Editorial support: edit letters of concern, press releases, fact sheets, ERRC website content, the ERRC Newsletter and video messages, advocacy submissions and other materials for publication produced by colleagues.
- Roma Rights coordination: manage article submission and selection process; supervise development and editing of all articles.
- Website coordination: oversee the regular updating of the ERRC website content;
- Schedule management: maintain a schedule for letters of concern, press releases, reports, submissions and publications launches and coordinate with the rest of the organisation to ensure timely development and avoid overlap.
- Information management: Ensure dissemination and archiving of communications materials, maintain up-to-date contacts lists, maintain and develop ERRC social media presence, respond to requests for information, etc.
- Needs assessment and outreach: monitor and provide accurate assessment of Roma rights developments and international and domestic advocacy opportunities, maintain strong relations with colleagues and external contacts and partners (Romani and other human rights activists, journalists, researchers and governmental and inter-governmental representatives, etc) and advise colleagues on communications actions;
- Establish and monitor individual work plan, and undertake necessary administrative tasks for own work.
- Help implement ERRC training programmes, as necessary and collaborate with ERRC interns, contribute to their learning and development.
- Other tasks as requested.
Remuneration
Based at the ERRC office in Budapest, the remuneration level for this full time position shall be commensurate with experience, ranging between 23,000 – 28,000 EUR gross per year (payable in Hungarian forints). In accordance with the annual budget approved by the board of directors, ERRC employees are provided fringe benefits and access to a professional development fund.
