Award: recognition to extra-ordinary young talents
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is inviting applications from youths in South Asia to apply for the SAARC Youth Award 2010.
The SAARC Youth Award aims to provide suitable recognition to extra-ordinary young talents and encourage the overall development of the youth in the region.
Objectives:
i. to give recognition to the outstanding work done by young persons;
ii. to provide youth the incentive to achieve excellence in the various fields;
iii. to improve educational and technical skills of youth and to encourage them in creative activities; and
iv. to encourage in the youth the development of personality through positive social attitudes and values.
Theme of the Award:
The theme of the Award – 2010 has been decided as “Outstanding Contribution to protection of Environment and Mitigating Effects of Climate Change”.
Eligibility:
The Award is open to nationals of SAARC Member States who are within the age group of 20-35 years at the time of nomination. As per the decision of the Thirtieth Session of the SAARC Council of Ministers (Colombo, 31 July – 1 August 2008), the SAARC Youth Award Scheme would be gender balanced and the Youth Award for 2010 will be conferred upon women candidates only.
The last date to submit applications is 30 September 2010.

Why does the award is only to be bestowed/conferred to women candidates only? Aren't man part of the youth because it's a youth award. Thanks.
