The BALKAN FUND, Thessaloniki’s Script Development Fund, is a fund for the development of film scripts from the Balkan Region. It addresses South-Eastern Europe and specifically Albania, Bosnia – Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus,  Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey.

The purpose of the BALKAN FUND is to support filmmakers from the region in their efforts to develop their screenplays as professionally as possible. The BALKAN FUND supports only feature-length fiction projects with a potential for theatrical release.

Selection criteria
* The BALKAN FUND only supports feature-length fiction projects with a potential for theatrical release.
* The development and production country must belong to the above mentioned group of countries.
* The project has to be original, authentic and directly connected to the history and culture of its country of origin. It should contribute to the development of the local film industry and of local filmmaking skills.
* The BALKAN FUND only supports projects, which have a realistic and complete development and production plan.

Application procedure

All interested applicants should submit the following documents:
1.    Completed entry form;
2.    Short synopsis of one paragraph (250 words);
3.    Treatment of between 8 and 10 pages OR the first draft of the screenplay;
4.    Producer’s notes concerning the further development of the treatment or screenplay;
5.    Director’s notes;
6.    Full chain of title as well as option or rights agreement for the source material, if any;
7.    Budget and financing plan for script and project development;
8.    Development timetable;
9.    Production financing plan, indicating any confirmed financing;
10.    Production timetable;
11.    Filmography of the director;
12.    Filmography of the writer;
13.    Filmography of the producer;
14.     Showreel or a previous film of the director on DVD;
15.    Documentation of the producer’s guarantees

Applications should include one (1) hard copy (unbound) and one (1) copy in electronic form. The hard copy need to be submitted to:
