“The EU as a Global Actor”, Paris

The Centre d’Etudes europeennes at Sciences Po and the IRSEM have decided to run a joint doctoral seminar, in Paris 3-4 June 2010

The workshop is open to all PhD students registered in a European university since at least one year. It aims at enabling young researchers to exchange ideas and discuss their research with their peers and senior academic colleagues. The theme of the workshop is “The EU as a Global Actor”. Preference will be given to proposals dealing with original, specific and understudied subjects (ie: the role of the EU after the financial crisis, the perception of the EU by non European actors, the European debate on Afghanistan, the assessment of EU policy on climate change after Copenhagen etc.). Non- French students are strongly urged to candidate.

At the end of the workshop, a 1,000 euros prize will be given to the best paper, based on the quality of the text submitted and of the answers to the questions and comments addressed during the discussion. The prize will be awarded following a vote of the participants to the workshop. The winning paper will be jointly published by the CEE and IRSEM.

Organization:
The convenors of the workshop are Zaki Laïdi (CEE-Sciences Po) and Frédéric Charillon (IRSEM). The working language of the workshop will be English.
Up to ten doctoral students
will present an original paper during the workshop. The format will be as follows: pre-circulated papers, 15mn presentation, followed by an open discussion.
CEE and IRSEM will finance the presenters’ accommodation expenses.

Submission process:
Abstracts (2 pages max) and CV need to be submitted simultaneously to: frederic.charillon@defense.gouv.fr and zaki.laidi@sciences-po.fr until 15 March 2010

The decision about papers will be made until 15 April 2010.
