The University of Turku is a highly international institution with a very good quality of teaching, research and student support services. It is the second largest university in Finland and offers study and research opportunities in six faculties: Humanities, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Medicine, Law, Social Science and Education.. The university is a member of the Coimbra Group, a network of prestigious universities in Europe. Even though the main language of instruction is Finnish, each Faculty offers study opportunities in English to both non-degree and degree students.
Total enrolment of students is about 18,000 and each year about 1,000 international students study at the university. Most of them participate in English-language programmes or at the doctoral level in research projects.
How to apply
Students who have completed a high school or (upper) secondary school or equivalent may apply to the University of Turku as a first-cycle degree student. The Bachelor’s degree consists of 180 credits and takes about 3 years of full-time study to complete. The Bachelor’s degree usually consists of basic and intermediate study modules of a specific field as well as other required studies and also minor studies. After completion of the Bachelor’s degree, the student may continue in the advanced Master’s studies module of his/her chosen main subject without any separate application.
PLEASE NOTE: The University of Turku currently does not offer Bachelor’s degree studies in English.
The online application system guides and helps you to fill in the application template and gives information on the required enclosures which must be sent to the University Admissions office by post. The information you have given on the template will be compiled into a pdf-document, which will become your Application Form as you print it out. Please note that the application is complete only if the filled and printed application template and the enclosures reach University Admission by the application deadline.

In addition to the Master’s degree programmes, international students holding a university degree at the Bachelor’s level in a relevant field of study may apply to complete a Master of Science (MSc) degree at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Student Scholarships and Exchanges
The University of Turku does not charge tuition fees. The university itself, however, cannot offer financial assistance or student-specific job opportunities. For the most part, all students, Finnish and international, are expected to finance their living costs by themselves.
Scholarship possibilities are announced in the spring semester at the end of March and the application deadline is at the end of April. Students participating in the Triple I programme coordinated by the University of Turku are entitled to EM ECW grant. The Triple I programme’s objective is to create multidisciplinary cooperation between Russian and European institutions. The programme and its grants are meant for Russian students applying for European institutions and for European students applying for Russian institutions.
