The University of Cambridge is located 50 miles north of London and is one of the oldest and most distinguished universities in the world. Teaching has taken place in Cambridge since 1209 and today there are over 17,000 students at the University, including almost 3,000 international students from a wide range of countries.
Cambridge is one of the most selective of all universities. Only about 25 per cent of all applicants are successful, and of these only about 10 per cent are from outside the UK. While academic strength is a pre-requisite, it does not guarantee acceptance; we are looking for well motivated students who Colleges feel are well matched for the courses they have chosen.
How to apply
To apply, similarly as any other UK university, one must apply online through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). Applicants from countries outside the EU must also complete a Cambridge Overseas Application Form (COAF), which can be downloaded above.
In both your UCAS application and your COAF, you should indicate the Cambridge College to which you wish to apply. If you have no preference for a particular College, you can choose to make an ‘open’ application, where your application is allocated by a computer to a College. Please note that affiliated applicants must apply to a College – there is no open application route for affiliated applicants.
The closing date for submitting both your UCAS application and the COAF is 15 October the year before you wish to commence studying at Cambridge.

Student Scholarships and Exchanges
Cambridge University offers a number of student exchange programmes. The two main ones are the Lifelong Learning Programme Erasmus and the Cambridge-MIT Student Exchange. The Cambridge-MIT Student Exchange offers opportunities for second and third year undergraduates of selected subjects to study for one academic year at MIT. Erasmus promotes mobility between European institutions, for staff as well as students. Opportunities for study in Germany, or for German students to study at Cambridge, exist via the Kurt Hahn Trust. Finally, the International Office also helps administer various scholarship schemes, one of the most popular ones being the Cambridge European Trust Vacation Scholarships, which provide funding for travel within Europe.
