Description

The Ford Foundation and Mozilla are announcing the Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellowship program designed to find emerging technical leaders who have a passion for Internet policy and advocacy. Each year a group of developers, technologists, hackers and data crunchers is selected to spend 10 months working as a Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellow in one of the following nonprofit organizations:

  • Public Knowledge;
  • Amnesty International;
  • Free Press;
  • Open Technology;
  • American Civil Liberties Union Foundation.

During the Fellowship, that will begin in February 2015, the next generation of leaders will be involved  in projects that create better technical understanding among civil society and policy makers. It will also create a stronger affirmative agenda that creates better public awareness of Internet policy issues, and improved cross-sector coordination.

Eligibility

The  Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellows program is open to emerging leaders who have a passion for informing the public policies that impact the Internet. They are looking for people with a track record of making and contributing to projects – through a variety of skill sets, including technology, organizing, and education — and an interest in working with Mozilla and the host organizations on specific initiatives to advance and protect the free and open Web.

Fellowship

The standard Fellowship offers a stipend of $60,000, paid in 10 monthly installments. The Fellowship also provides supplements for housing, childcare, health insurance, moving expenses, and helps pay for research/equipment and books. In addition the costs of required travel for Fellowship activities will also be covered.
