Description

The Choices Geography Leadership Institute is an opportunity to examine the Choices Program’s award-winning materials and approach for teaching about contested international issues, and explore methods for introducing the Choices Program to other geography educators.

The content focus of the institute will be China on The World Stage: Weighing the U.S. Response. While in attendance at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies, participants will use a geographic lens to explore multiple viewpoints on issues that top U.S.- China relations in the 21st century. In addition, they will examine other Choices units and their applicability to teaching about international issues and addressing Common Core Standards. The goal of the institute is to build a community of geography educators who are prepared to share best practices for using Choices to teach geography.

Eligibility

Secondary–level geography teachers, as well as teachers who incorporate a significant amount of geography in their teaching, are invited to apply to the 2014 Geography Leadership Institute.

Costs

  • Meals, housing, and reading materials throughout the institute are provided and arranged by the Choices Program.
  • There is no cost for the institute. Participants are required to cover their own travel to and from the institute, and parking costs.

Application

Your application and Supervisor Evaluation Form must be received by Monday, 17 March 2014. All parts of the application should be emailed to choices@brown.edu, with the exception of the Supervisor Evaluation Form, which may be faxed.
