The American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private, nonsectarian, independent university founded in 1991 in Yerevan, Armenia. Its creation inspired in the aftermath of the 1988 Leninakan Earthquake, the university is the first Armenian institution modeled on Western-style higher education, committed to teaching, research, and service.

The university currently offers instruction leading to a master’s degree in the following eight fields of study: business administration, industrial engineering and systems management, computer and information science, political science, public health, law, comparative legal studies, and teaching English as a foreign language. By offering these programs in English, AUA strives to become accessible to qualified individuals from other countries in the region.

Qualified students may complete an interdisciplinary Certificate in Environmental Conservation and Research. In preparation for the academic program, AUA offers its students instruction in the English language and in computer applications.

Whether you are interested in our undergraduate programs or pursuing a Master’s degree, AUA offers 12 programs to provide you with the foundation and skills to become specialists and well-rounded individuals who can think critically and creatively, learn independently, understand different thought processes, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively with people from different cultures and disciplines.

Available Master’s programs include Business Administration, Computer and Information Science, Economics, Industrial Engineering and Systems Management, Laws, Political Science and International Affairs, Public Health, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. In September 2013, we started offering 4-year undergraduate degrees in Business, Computational Sciences, and English and Communications.

Undergraduate Admissions

AUA practices holistic admissions. We are looking for students who not only succeed academically, but who excel outside of school. You may be a first ranked chess player, an Olympiad winner, or a published poet. Or perhaps you are an accomplished musician – excelling in the piano, violin, or oud. Perhaps you have a black belt in karate, are a star dancer, or are part of your high school’s student council.  Or maybe you are actively involved in volunteering for your community. At AUA, the decision to offer a student admission is never based on just one factor. We will always look at your academic credentials, your official entrance exam scores, your extracurricular and volunteer experience, and more.

Graduate Admissions

AUA’s graduate program offers master’s degrees that develop critical analysis and depth of knowledge through advanced coursework, independent study, and research. Available programs of study include Business Administration, Computer and Information Science, Economics, Industrial Engineering and Systems Management, Laws, Political Science and International Affairs, Public Health, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Program requirements and courses are described in detail on this website under the respective College or School.

AUA practices holistic admissions. What this means is that you are more than just a standardized test score and undergraduate degree grades. In addition to looking at your GPA and test scores, the Admissions Committee pays close attention to your academic credentials, professional experience, your ability to describe your academic interests and justify your reasons for applying, your recommendation letters, and an interview, if applicable.
