UN Alliance of Civiliations Forum, Vienna Austria

Deadline: 1 November 2012
Open to: members of non-government and non-for-profit youth organizations between 18 and 35 years old
Venue: Vienna, Austria from 26-28 February 2013

Description:

The 5th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations will take place in Vienna, Austria, from February 26 to 28, 2013. This forum will bring together a vast array of participants including youth, political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, representatives of faith communities, journalists, etc. to work together and agree on joint actions to improve relations across cultures and religions and build a lasting peace.

The Forum will explore how responsible leadership can make a difference in the following three major issues:

  1. Addressing the universal right to religious freedom and promoting a new religious pluralism through education;
  2. Media pluralism and diversity of media content and their contribution to fostering public debate, democracy and awareness of diverse opinions;
  3. Shaping a new narrative for migration, integration and mobility in the global economy.

Up to 150 youth (between 18 and 35 years old) from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds with outstanding track records in intercultural dialogue and youth work will be selected as participants of the Youth Event (February 26) and the 5th UNAOC Forum (February 27 and 28) in Vienna.

The Youth Event will be output-oriented and will focus on collective reflection rather than on presentations of individual projects implemented by youth organizations at the event. In addition, it will help youth establish contacts, actively exchange and explore how they can collaborate together, before and after the Forum. Youth will be invited to multiply the results of the Youth Event and the Forum after they return home.

Aiming to launch well in advance the discussions among the youth, during the period of December 2012 – February 2013, the organizers will invite all selected youth to participate in online consultations on the Forum’s themes and start brainstorming on the elements of the Youth Recommendations to be prepared on February 26.

The draft program of the Youth Event and the 5th UNAOC Forum will be available on-line in November at this website.

Costs and Application:

All selected youth participants will be provided with a round-trip international ticket to Vienna (most direct route, economy class) and accommodation once in Vienna. Meals and coffee breaks will be provided.

Youth participants will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the airport in their country of residence as well as in Austria, obtaining any necessary exit, transit and Schengen visa, as well as their own incidental expenses in Austria.

Please see the APPLICATION GUIDELINES HERE for more details and eligibility criteria.

      1. The guidelines state that, in rare cases, you will accept individual applications (i.e., applications from individuals who are not members of a youth organization) provided that the applicants have outstanding commitment/expertise in the field of intercultural dialogue. May a postgraduate student without any organization apply if he or she has proven commitment or expertise in interculural dialogue? Kindly clarify. Thank you very much.

        1. Dear Marie,

          As it is specified in the application guideline, you can apply if you are representative of some organisation. Please go through the guideline and see for additional information. If you still have concerns, please direct to the contact persons.

          Best regards,

    1. Dear Vicki,

      The open call specifically says that it is opened to members of non-government and non-profit youth organisation. However, you might want to ask the organizers to confirm whether or not you can apply.

      Best regards,

  1. Hi,
    This is Ali Zaryab from Pakistan. I am currently a part of three youth run organizations. One local (which I founded along with my fellow mates) one national and one international. From which organization should I apply to this event? or can I send my application from these three organizations at once?

    Waiting anxiously for your prompt reply.

    Best Regards,
    Ali Zaryab

      1. Sorry, but I think Ali was asking something other than your answer. I have the same concern, namely I'm member of a national organization. My national org. is a member of an international organization, where I'm a coordinator. So, should I apply for national, international or can I do it for both?

        1. Dear Ana,

          we as Mladiinfo only inform about different possibilities, we can not decide for which organization you should apply. The best is to address your question to the organizers, they will respond quickly.

          Kind regards,
          Mladiinfo team
