Last year nearly 13,000 images were submitted from all over the world. The pictures captured an assortment of the places, wildlife, and people that make traveling memorable, evoking a sense of delight, discovery—or both. See the winning photos from 2011.
Costs
The contest runs from April 5 to June 28, with an entry fee of $15. For those procrastinators out there, the deadline was extended until July 11 with an increase of $10 per entry.

Eligibility
The contest is open only to individuals who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry and who do NOT reside in New Jersey, Vermont, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, the Province of Quebec, Sudan, or Syria. Employees of National Geographic Society, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such employees, whether or not related are not eligible. CONTEST IS VOID IN NEW JERSEY, VERMONT, CUBA, IRAN, NORTH KOREA, THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, SUDAN, SYRIA, AND WHERE PROHIBITED.
Application
Each Entry consists of an entry form, a single image, and an entry fee. The entry fee is US$15 per Entry for Entries received on or before 11:59 p.m. ET on June 27, 2012. All Entries received between 12:00 a.m. ET on June 28, 2012 and 11:59 p.m. ET on July 11, 2012 will be subject to an additional fee of US$10.
