Applications are invited from talented doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in Applied and Computational Mathematics for Visiting Studentships and Postdoctoral Research Assistantships (PDRAs) at the Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM). The Centre has been established as the result of a substantial grant from the Global Research Partnership of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The Centre’s strategic vision is to be a world-class research centre in problem-solving mathematics allied to a global network designed to enable the best mathematical expertise to be brought to bear on the world’s problems.

OCCAM is engaged in a wide range of collaborative applied and computational mathematics projects under the broad headings of Methodologies (M); Resources, Energy and Environment (REE); Biosciences and Bioengineering (BB); Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). In the academic year 2010/11, OCCAM teams will be focusing on the following projects (see here).

The positions will be for up to 3 months duration. Applications well in advance of the proposed visit are welcome. Please note that applicants for OVSs must be undertaking their doctoral studies at the time of their visit. Similarly, visits by OVPs must take place while the PDRA is still employed by the same institution as at the time of the application and still working on the same research project.

Studentships

OVS/Ps will be reimbursed (upon presentation of receipts) travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses for their visit.

Application Process

Applications will be considered three times a year; the next two deadlines are  1 June 2011 (BK/11/005) and 1 Oct 2011 (BK/11/006).

Applications must include:
– a curriculum vitae,
– a list of publications
– a short research plan including how the applicant’s research project at their home institution will benefit from a period of time spent in Oxford, & who at Oxford would be an appropriate supervisor.
– Applicants should also provide an indication of how they will become involved in, and contribute to, research in OCCAM, in particular in relation to the areas set out in the further particulars. Cover letters must include the proposed dates of visits and confirmation of your right to work in the UK (or intent to apply). Please quote the BK number for the appropriate closing date.
