University of Essex Scholarships support talented postgraduate students, particularly PhD students, to study at the University. In 2009-2010, scholarships worth a total of more than £723,000 were distributed. Each department has a share of the scholarship fund which it can use to support students.
Scholarships
There are three types of scholarship awards which are listed below. These are awarded for each year of study during the standard minimum period of enrolment for your degree, subject to satisfactory progress.
- £10,000* For research students only
- £5,000 For research or Master’s students
- £2,000 For research or Master’s students
*For successful candidates for this scholarship: This £10,000 scholarship will be increased for overseas research students studying for a lab based research degree to ensure that it will covers full tuition fees.
When a scholarship is awarded it is deducted from the tuition fees payable. In some cases, departments may also offer additional top-up Teaching or Research Scholarships, which provide opportunities to gain paid teaching or additional research experience.
The application deadline for University of Essex Scholarships this year is 13 May 2011.
Eligibility
To be considered for a University of Essex Scholarship you must:
■ complete the University of Essex Scholarship application form by the deadline, usually the end of April.
■ research students – be applying for a PhD or Integrated PhD – other types of research degree are not eligible.
■ taught students – be applying for a Masters degree (not Postgraduate Diploma).
How to Apply
You should complete the University of Essex Scholarship application form either at the same time as submitting your application to study or subsequently. In order to be considered you must return this by the deadline, usually the end of April each year. You will only be considered for a scholarship if the University makes you an official offer of admission. The form and further information is available on official website . Successful candidates will normally be notified in June.
