Description
The Curtin Humanitarian Fund has been developed by Curtin University to support Curtin undergraduate and postgraduate students from a refugee-like background who are experiencing financial difficulty in meeting the costs of pursuing higher education.
The fund is in accordance with Curtin’s long-standing, formal commitment to Ethics and Social Justice.

Eligibility
Eligible courses
- All undergraduate degrees;
- Postgraduate degrees in masters by coursework only.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for a Curtin Humanitarian Fund Scholarship:
- Holder of one of the following classes of visas:
- Bridging Visa E holder in Australia;
- Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785);
- Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790);
- Currently residing within Australia;
- Received a full offer* of admission into:
- An undergraduate degree at Curtin University in semester 1, 2018;
- A postgraduate (masters by coursework) degree at Curtin University in semester 1 or trimester 1, 2018;
- Be from a refugee-like background, or the relative of such a person, who experienced forced migration and may have entered Australia in a number of ways including:
- Off-shore approved refugee or humanitarian entrant;
- Onshore, community based Asylum Seeker or refugee;
- Temporary Protection Visa holder;
- Family reunion;
- Able to provide details of refugee background;
- Financial hardship.
Recipients must meet ALL of the following:
- Remain enrolled in initial course of study;
- Maintain enrolment each semester at Curtin University;
- Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each semester;
- Fail no more than one unit attempted each semester.
Scholarship continuity is subject to meeting satisfactory academic progress as outlined above. Progress will be assessed at the end of each study period. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, a recipient with unsatisfactory progress or who breaches the scholarship conditions shall be ineligible to retain the scholarship. Exceptional circumstances must be forwarded to and shall be at the discretion of the Scholarships Office.
Benefits
The Curtin Humanitarian Fund will provide a range of awards to support educational costs. The award amount will be dependant on the circumstances of the individual recipient.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m a struggling young boy from Papua New Guinea currently living in Australia for only this year in the Nothern part of Queensland basing here at Townsville attending Tec-NQ.
In fact, I’m a true orphan that I have completed my year 12 but I usually fighting with financial difficulties in meeting the costs of completing all the sets (certificates) of the program that I have enrolled at Tec-NQ.
My aim and interest in education is to study one of the fields in business but for some circumstances I am now enrolled in Automotive Mechanical doing set two (Certificate II) at Tec-NQ. I found out that this is one that (golden opportunity) I am always looking for when I struggling with my education so once I organize all the necessary documents, I will send them to Curtin University Scholarship Office for selection.
