Founded in Prague in 1990 as a non-profit foundation, AAU is the oldest private institution of higher education in the Czech Republic. Accreditation

American and European accreditation ensures that your degree from AAU is recognized around the world.

Anglo-American University is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), 985 Atlantic Avenue, Suite 100, Alameda, CA 94501, USA, +1 510 748 9001. WSCUC is one of six official regional American accrediting associations in the United States recognized by the U.S. Department of Education which evaluates public and private senior colleges and universities in the western part of the United States.

Among the nearly 200 universities which WSCUC accredits are, for example, such prestigious schools as Stanford University, the University of California Berkeley, the California Institute of Technology, the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, and Chapman University. In addition, WSCUC has accredited twelve select foreign universities, including AAU – the only university in Europe to have received this prestigious accreditation. This means AAU graduates receive a university degree that is recognized worldwide as meeting the same rigorous academic standards that leading universities in the United States are subject to. In other words, earning a WSCUC-accredited degree means that your diploma will be recognized in the USA and the transferability of credits to the USA is much simpler.

In addition to AAU’s U.S. accreditation, most of AAU’s programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, or else are offered in cooperation with international partners.

AAU’s MBA program, which is offered in cooperation with Chapman University in California, is globally accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the gold standard of business school accreditation.

AAU’s Certificate of Higher Education in Common Law (CertHE Common Law), as well as the LLB and LLM programs are offered in cooperation with the University of London. WSCUC accreditation does not apply to these programs. The John H. Carey II School of Law is a Registered Centre for the University of London International Programmes whereby the quality of legal instruction offers at AAU is backed by and formally recognized by the integrity of the University of London Law Consortium.

Campus

With AAU’s campus situated in the magnificently restored, 17th-century baroque Thurn-Taxis Palace right under the Prague Castle in the historic district of Malá Strana, AAU boasts one of the most attractive locations of any Central European university. The palace offers 16 modern fully-equipped classrooms, a computer lab and a visual arts studio along with a café, spacious courtyard, and modern student lounges that students can take advantage of for studying and socializing. Located next to the palace and directly accessible from the campus are the Vojan Gardens, a beautiful and spacious park.

The School of International Relations & Diplomacy covers the areas of theories of international relations, international political economy, international development, international law, conflict studies, diplomatic history, diplomatic protocol, and more. The undergraduate and graduate programs at this School give graduates a strong understanding of the theory and practice needed to excel in the dynamic fields of international relations and diplomacy.Through this School, AAU was the first and only civilian university to engage in an interactive project with NATO ACT, essentially bringing NATO experts into the classroom. School organizes guest lectures and field trips and, in intermediate classes, students get to work on projects supervised by local and global businesses whereby teams are rewarded with first-hand feedback and direct chances for internships or part-time jobs.

The School of Journalism trains its students to excel at print and new media journalism using a combination of professional techniques and classroom theory. The School pays significant attention to preparing its students with an informed, developed, and responsible understanding of political and economic social issues and systems, both regionally and internationally, so students are able to reflect an understanding of the crucial relationship between news media and democratic politics. Skills taught include writing, digital tools, photography, broadcast news and video production, visual culture, and more.
