Description

The Center for Media, Data, and Society at Central European University in Budapest is offering a unique hybrid-style online and offline course on cross-border investigative journalism with the intention to equip reporters with improved skills of the latest investigative reporting techniques to be able to research, conduct and present region-specific cross-border investigations; to teach how to integrate various multimedia approaches into investigative research; equip journalists with basic legal knowledge and prepare journalists to collaborate regionally on cross-border topics with an improved regional approach and network.

The course will start with an intensive training in Budapest, Hungary, on October 19-20, 2020, followed by eight weeks of top-level online instruction.

Eligibility

In order to apply you must be a journalist working in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia that have a strong command of the English language. All candidates must be able to attend the training course in full.

Benefits

Along with receiving top-quality education from experienced journalists, The Center for Media, Data, and Society at Central European University in Budapest will also cover all costs of accommodation and travel for their training program. Participants will also have the opportunity  pitch their investigative ideas for grants offered by BIRN Hub, and if their idea is accepted, they will receive assistance and mentorship for their research. All successful participants will receive certificates for their completed training from the Central European University, signed by the Director of the Center for Media, Data and Society and verifiable for employers.
