Description

Due to the covid-19 outbreak, the EULR summer school  for 2020 has been cancelled.

The year 2020 marks a special year for the European Union which finds itself facing many new challenges but also looking for ways forward. What direction is the EU heading today? What would the Union look like without UK? What are the membership prospects for the Western Balkans? How has the European Economic Constitution transformed through the financial crisis? Which are the new emerging institutional arrangements for the European governance?

This year’s edition of the Summer School will explore some of these issues and bring them in the context of the EU enlargement effort. It will take place in Igalo (Herceg-Novi), Montenegro, from July 7-13, 2020.

The vision of the EU & Legal Reform Summer School is to create a dynamic network of scholars and practitioners who will work to enact critical reforms as the EU expands. For the past 15 years they have worked towards this goal in three ways:

  1.  Have brought together a diverse group of young legal scholars who we hope will eventually assist in legal reform and European integration processes in their respective countries and on the EU level.
  2. Have initiated a fruitful exchange of experiences and best practices during and after the Summer School that may lead to future transnational projects.
  3. Have published Igalo Series, a selection of reviewed student essays inspired by the presentations and discussions that occurred during each Summer School.

At the CCSDD, they believe that for true integration into the European Union to take place, European law needs to be fully incorporated into every aspect of domestic legisla-tion. In order to harmonize the current Eastern, Central, and South Eastern European legal systems with those of EU countries, as well as cultivate groundbreaking legal thinking, it is essential to develop, train, and disseminate innovative teaching methods to young academics. In so doing, they can create a new generation of receptive and open-minded lawyers who will play a critical role in the process of reform.

The summer school is open to final-year undergraduate students and graduate students in Law and Political Science, as well as to young professionals and scholars. The ideal candidate will have solid background knowledge in European Law and an understanding of the mechanisms of EU enlargement.
