Deadline: 31 January 2020
Open to: B.Sc. or M.Sc. students in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics — with a strong computing profile
Benefits: a stipend of around EUR 80 and a travel allowance on a lump-sum basis

Description

Each summer, CERN Open lab runs a nine-week program for bachelor’s and master’s students specializing in subjects related to computer science. These students come to CERN to work on cutting-edge projects with our collaborators, gaining hands-on experience with the latest ICT solutions. CERN is the birthplace of the World Wide Web. The laboratory hosts ground-breaking experiments and is at the heart of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG). It is an environment like no other, where dizzying ICT challenges abound!

By joining the CERN Open Lab summer-student program, you will work with some of the latest hardware and software technologies and see how advanced ICT solutions are used in high-energy physics. You will have the opportunity to attend a series of lectures developed for the CERN Open Lab summer students, given by experts on advanced CERN-related topics. Included in the program are also visits at the CERN facilities and experiments, as well as to other research laboratories and companies.

Eligibility

This call is open for B.Sc. or M.Sc. student (who will have completed at least three years of full-time studies at university level by next spring) in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics — with a strong computing profile. Candidates should be interested in working on an advanced ICT project for nine weeks during the period June-September 2020.

Benefits

A stipend of around EUR 80 per day during contractual dates (generally 61 days) is sponsored by CERN and the CERN Open Lab industrial members and should cover accommodation and living costs during the nine-week stay.
