Wiki Loves Monuments Photography Contest 2019

Deadline: 30 September 2019
Open to: everyone
Award: a grand prize of EUR 1500 and global visibility

Description

Applications are welcomed for the Wiki Loves Monuments Photo Competition 2019. This is the 10th edition of WLM, a remarkable achievement for a competition that has garnered the status of “the world’s largest open photography contest” in Guinness World Records.

Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) is an annual international photographic competition held during the month of September, organised worldwide by Wikipedia community members with the help of local Wikimedia affiliates across the globe. Participants take pictures of local historical monuments and heritage sites in their region, and upload them to Wikimedia Commons. The aim of the event is to highlight the heritage sites of the participating countries with the goal to encourage people to capture pictures of these monuments, and to put them under a free license which can then be re-used not only in Wikipedia but everywhere by everyone.

They are excited and look forward to running another successful round of adding monument(al) photos from all over the world to Wikipedia. Photos submitted through WLM illustrate the more than 1.4 million monuments on Wikipedia and help more people around the world to learn about history and national heritage of all participating countries.

Eligibility

Everybody can join the competition by submitting a photograph of a nationally registered monument on Wikimedia Commons before September 30, following the instructions for each country. You can participate in as many national competitions as you wish.

Benefits

  • The national and international winning entries in WLM normally enjoy exposure by making national and international headlines;
  • Winner will receive the EUR 1500 grand prize!
