Brain Drain Hackathon and Conference

Description

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Association LEAD and the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies are organizing the first regional Brain Drain Hackathon and Conference from 11th until 14th of May in Ohrid and Skopje.

The goal of this event is to develop a regional policy document with series of measures for tackling the Brain Drain challenge in the Western Balkans. The aim of this document is to be endorsed by the Governments in the region.

The Programme will be separated in two parts. The first part – Policy Hackathon will take place from 11th – 13th of May in Ohrid and will be an intense programme where participants will work in their own Policy Groups. Each Group will have an assigned researcher to help with the work of the group and formulate the final product.

The second part will take place on the 14th of May and will involve an open Conference for the public where the Policy suggestions from the group will be presented. The Conference will take place in Skopje.

Eligibility

The event will gather 40 participants (institutional representatives, CSO activists and individuals) aged 18-35 years old who are willing to contribute toward the region through high-intensity dialogue at the Hackathon and Conference. Beside the host country, participants from the following countries are invited to apply: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo Montenegro and Serbia;

The event is open to participants who have at least two years’ experience in working on brain drain related areas (employment, education, entrepreneurship, human rights, youth standard etc.) as part of a youth CSO or as individuals. All applicants that represent an organization should provide a letter of nomination from their organizations;

In addition to the CSO representatives and indviduals, up to two institutional representatives from each country related to the topic will be invited.

Costs

  • The event is free of charge for every accepted participant. All costs related to the conference (travel, accommodation and food) will be covered by the organizers;
  • Accepted participants have the responsibility to organize their own transport by the cheapest available option in coordination with the organizers. Reimbursements will be made after successful participation and completion of the event by the participants.
