“Journalism for Future Challenges,” organized by SSE Riga Centre for Media Studies in cooperation with the Organized Crime & Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), is a program for early-career journalists who are looking to improve their investigative reporting skills, knowledge of international law and politics and expand their professional network.

This intensive training program, taught by international experts from renowned newsrooms, focuses on teaching cutting-edge tools and methods for investigative journalism. The program is divided into three separate modules: June 27 to July 2; Aug. 15 to 19; and Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.

The sessions will cover topics such as basic investigative reporting, planning and managing an investigative project, an overview of how organized crime and corruption works, personal security, advanced research on the internet, encrypting, source protection, ethics, news verification and visual journalism.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident or citizen of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, or Ukraine;
  • Be an early career journalist looking to gain more experience in investigative journalism (prior work in investigative journalism is not necessary, but some general journalism experience is required);
  • Be between 20 and 35 years of age;
  • Have a strong interest in investigative journalism;
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English;
  • Be in possession of your own computer, since information security is an important part of the course.

Costs

The program covers travel and lodging, tuition and instructional materials, visa costs, coffee breaks, breakfast, lunches and opening and closing dinners for each module.
