Description
The Chinese Font Design and Research Center, the National Center for the Performing Arts, and Beijing Founder Electronics Co., Ltd. announced the Eighth Founder, which strives to carry forward Chinese traditional character culture, promote type and find new talents in type design. Type design in China embraces a new age, as rapid development of internet promotes the transformation of design technology and communication media, which brings collisions and blend between Chinese and western cultures.
Now, as the Eighth Founder Type Design Competition have been started, it is open to any individual, group or nationality. The intention is to carry forward Chinese traditional character culture, promote type design innovation, find excellent talents in type design and promote the development of the font design field.
Eligibility
- The competition is open to any individual, group or nationality;
- Participants must be originator or instructors of entries;
- Typeface should be suitable for little and text of books, newspaper, magazines and screens;
- All works, created after February 2014 may be submitted to the competition. Works that have been transformed or shadowed on existing fonts or computer fonts will not be accepted;
- Works shall be black-and – white images. Grey and color images will not be accepted;
- Please design Chinese characters with simplified strokes for “typesetting type” and “creative type”. Traditional Chinese characters are not accepted;
- Entry words such as “Typesetting Type Design” and “Creative Type Design” should be written or output in the square box (50mmX 50MM) with total five pages for each 12 characters. Participants should display one page of entry words with horizontal and vertical typesetting;
- Entry words of “Latin Type Design” should be written or output in the box. In addition, entry words should display typesetting with different font sizes for designated texts.
Requirements of digital Files of Entries
- Size: A4 (210mm X 297mm);
- Quality:300dpi;
- Every entry is stored with one PDF and save the first page with jpg format as thumbnail of the entry. The PDF volume≦10M, picture volume≦1M;
- Entry type (typesetting/creation/Latin) + author’s name + name of the entry. For example: Wangwen + typesetting+ An Interesting Type in Song Dynasty (Qusong).

- One winner, award: RMB 30 000 and award certificate;
- Two winners, award: RMB 15 000 and award certificate;
- Three winners, award: RMB 8 000 and award certificate;

Creative Type Design
- One winner, award: RMB 20 000 and award certificate;
- Two winners, award: RMB 10 000 and award certificate;
- Two winners, award: RMB 5 000 and award certificate;
- Award of Excellence: 10 winners, award: RMB 1000 and award certificate.
Latin Category
- One winner, award: RMB 20 000 and award certificate;
- Two winners, award: RMB 10 000 and award certificate;

Peopleʼs Choice
Award: RMB 1000 and award certificate for top five winners chosen by netizens by voting.

- After login, click “entry upload” and fill in name, phone, e-mail address according to requirements;
- Choose “entry type” (typesetting/creation/Latin) and fill in entry name, instructors (optional) and introduction;

- Upload thumbnail with jpg format and the entry with pdf format, following tips;
- Choose “Award of Viewers’ Choice ”;
- After all information is verified, click “submit”;
- Information on “Award of Viewers Choice”: choose “Yes, entries will be displayed on the website on voted by netizens; choose “No”, entries will not be voted by netizens;
- Please fill in all required field and upload all necessary files according to requirements in order that organizers can contact you and ensure entries submitted can go through review.
