Conf. on World War II and the Fate of Civilians in Eastern Europe

Deadline: 20 September 2015
Open to: researchers from all around the world with a keen interest in the history of World War II
Venue: 30 November – 1 December 2015, Kiev, Ukraine

Description

History of World War II in Ukraine and within the territory of the former USSR has been studied rather imperfectly. Research of the Soviet scientists was usually ideologically engaged, while the scientists from Europe and America almost did not have access to many collections of the documents, so their texts could not claim to be complete. There is very little research about fate of civilians in this period. Therefore, it was proposed to hold an international conference and gather leading historians of World War II.

One of the major tasks of this event is to cover unexplored aspects of the theme:

  • Soviet occupation of the western lands;
  • Policy of the Nazis and the Soviet authorities on the most vulnerable groups of the population (Jews, Roma, and people with mental health problems);
  • Local communities living under the occupation etc.

Conference is to be dedicated to the blessed memory of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky who was trying his best to rescue everybody – Ukrainians, Poles, Jews. The conference will be held from 30 November to 1 December 2015 at the National University of “Kyiv- Mohyla Academy” (Kyiv, Ukraine). Official languages of the event are Ukrainian and English.
