Description

The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna is an intellectually and politically independent institute for advanced study in the humanities and social sciences. Since its foundation in 1982, the Institute has promoted intellectual exchange between East and West, academia and society, and a variety of disciplines and schools of thought. The IWM is sustained by a community of scholars consisting of Permanent Fellows,Visiting Fellows and Guests.

In memory and honor of its founding Rector,Krzysztof Michalski, who died in 2013, the IWM has established a new fellowship program consisting of one senior and two junior positions.

Eligibility

The Krzysztof Michalski Visiting Fellowship is awarded to an outstanding scholar working in the fields of continental philosophy or religion.

Fellowship

The Krzysztof Michalski Junior Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend of € 3.300 per month to cover all expenses during their stay in Vienna, including accommodation, research and travel costs as well as health insurance. In addition, the IWM will provide the fellows with office space and access to the internet, in-house research and administrative facilities as well as other services free of charge.

Applications have to be submitted using the online application form and need to include (as PDF files):

  • a concise research proposal in English (max. 8,000 characters incl. spaces) outlining:
    – the academic problem(s) addressed;
    – a critical consideration of relevant current literature;
    – the research goals and expected results;
    – a work schedule.
  • a curriculum vitae;
  • a list of publications;
  • two letters of recommendation by scholars familiar with the applicant’s academic work
