Description
On the 17th of May the International Day against Homophobia (IDAHO) is celebrated. To pay proper respect to this day, three organizations for human rights in Tirana, Albania, are organizing an event called Diversity Week, from 12-17 May. The main aim is to show that all people have an equal chance, despite their differences.
One of the events during the Diversity Week is the “Freedom of Expression, No Hate Speech” photography exhibition. The Human Rights House in Albania (HRHA), PINK Embassy / LGBT Pro Albania (PINK) and Open Mind Spectrum Albania (OMSA) are organizing a photo contest with the same name, encouraging young people, especially artists to participate and warn against all forms of gender, racial, minority, and migrant discrimination.
Eligibility
The photo contest is open to everyone, especially young people and young artists from the field of art, design, film, and photography.
Prize
Winning photos will be exhibited in Tirana, Albania during the “Freedom of expression, No Hate Speech” exhibition, from 12-17 May. The jury will contact the authors of the selected works at the beginning of May.
Application
Participants can submit up to 3 photos though e-mail, send them on CD or post them.
The images cannot have been awarded in other contests before the decision of the jury or published elsewhere. Submitted work should be original, and express:
- Strengths and challenges people face when discriminated in all their diversity;
- Personal experience of an event related with human rights and freedom of expression;
- Equal rights for every citizen regardless of social position.
Photos which identify situations where freedom of expression is clearly presented (e.g. protests, social activities, etc.) are welcomed as well.
Before submitting the photos, participants have to register by filling in the online application form. All fields marked with asterisk are obligatory. After registering participants send each entry in a separate e-mail at omsa.albania@gmail.com.
The photo or illustration have to be in JPEG or PDF format, size: 10 MB max.
Applicants should be aware that photos sent by post will not be returned to the participants. Also, the organizers reserve the right to crop images according to their decisions.
