Now, more than ever before, people are founding social non-profits, communities or social businesses. They are challenging existing problems through new, innovative projects. More and more young people are deciding to walk this path of change, often next to their studies.

The Social Impact award supports these projects. Students from Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia are invited to develop their own ideas for projects that solve societal problems through entrepreneurial, creative solutions.

The Award is coordinated by the Impact Hub Vienna on behalf of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, in cooperation with RopotHub Prague and Rozbehni sa. What is offered to participants: professional know-how, space for exchanging ideas, feedback and prizes that help young entrepreneurs to start their social project.

As a participant to the Social Impact Award, you can develop and submit your own project idea that solves a social challenge. A series of workshops and events provides you with the support and knowledge you need. You can also connect with other young social entrepreneurs, or learn from experienced ones.

  • Any team of students/ student from a university in Austria, Romania, Czech Republic,  Slovakia, Croatia, Greece, Russia or Switzerland is allowed to submit a project.
  • They have to be enrolled in university (or similar institution) and have a valid enrolment number or document for the academic year 2012-2013.
  • If a team submits a project, at least 50% of its members have to be students.
  • Already founded projects can also be submitted, as long as the project was not founded more than 2 years before the submission.
  • There is no age restriction.

Everybody can win participating in the Social Impact Award as it offers support and opportunities to all participants!

The workshop series that takes place during the weeks before submission deadline helps you to find an idea and shape your project or improve your project. The participation in the events is free of charge and open to all persons interested.

In each country the best projects will be awarded:

Social Impact Award Stipends

The Social Impact Award Stipends enable the teams of the four most convincing applications to dedicate their time during the summer months 2012 preferentially to their projects. A Social Impact Award Stipend comprises € 1,500 – 4,000 and an Unlimited Summer Membership for one person in one of the HUBs involved (during the summer months July – September, apportionable into smaller memberships), as well as professional support by each community.

Community Awards

Not only the jury awards some projects, but also the community!

These prizes are awarded by an online voting. Those projects that are among the finalists of each country qualify for the voting. On the 22nd of April 2013 the online voting starts and allows all interested persons to evaluate the best project ideas based on short videos presenting each project.
