Satellite and in situ observations provide the information for up-to-date global analyses and re-analyses of the atmosphere, ocean and surface. More information you can find HERE.

ECMWF’s main computing facility includes supercomputers, archiving and data handling systems. ECMWF is connected to the meteorological telecommunication system and to its Member States via efficient networks linking 44 countries. This position is in the Property Section of the Administration Department. The successful candidate will work in a small team of highly motivated staff and will report to the Head of Property Section. The Property Section is responsible for providing a good working environment for its employees and manages the property and facilities services to support ECMWF’s activities.

Duties of the Facilities Officer:

  • Co-ordinating and supervising the day-to-day maintenance of buildings, facilities and services (except computing and engineering services) at ECMWF, including aspects of security, access control, cleaning, catering, conferencing, hospitality, printing facilities and official transport;

  • Assisting with maintaining compliance with all fire regulations, including system training, monitoring and maintenance, etc;
  • Co-ordinating the space planning, office moves and minor alterations to office spaces involving the planning and organisation of building works in line with UK building standards and management of external contractors;
  • Liaising with UK governmental authorities for the external maintenance of ECMWF’s premises.

This role would suit an individual with experience and knowledge of hard and soft facilities operations, with a particular leaning towards building maintenance or health and safety. The ability to interpret building plans and diagrams would be highly desirable. Candidates should have a good secondary level education, together with direct experience of working in a similar role, supported by the appropriate qualifications and registration with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).

The successful candidate should be able to make informed decisions, be flexible and able to work in a busy environment, often working to very tight deadlines. Candidates should have good IT literacy together with a good working knowledge of the MS Office software.

The working languages of ECMWF are English, French, and German. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English. A good knowledge of one of the other working languages would be desirable. Interviews will be conducted in English.
