Music Omi International Residency, USA

Deadline: 1 February 2014
Open to: composers and performers from around the globe
Benefits: accommodation and meals for two weeks and a half

Every summer, Music Omi invites approximately a dozen musicians to come together for two and a half weeks in a unique collaborative music making residency program. Music Omi encourages its participants to share ideas; perform each other’s works and write music for one another while exploring their own musical vision; and broaden their artistic and cultural horizons. A singular feature of the Music Omi experience is the presentation of public performances during and at the conclusion of the residency, sharing some of their collaborative work with the public.

Omi International Arts Center is located two and a half hours north of New York City in the historic Hudson River Valley. Named for a neighboring village, Omi is close to the small town of Ghent, New York, as well as Albany and Hudson, which offer train connections only thirty minutes away.

The facilities, situated on three hundred acres of open land, include a large two-story barn with indoor studios; contemporary residence buildings designed with a vernacular reference to local barns, surrounded by abundant perennial beds, expansive lawns dotted with fruit trees, adjacent to The Fields Sculpture Park.

A Federal Period farm house serves as a gathering center, providing a full kitchen, television room and library; while the front porch overlooks rolling hills and the majestic outline of the Catskill Range. A swimming pool, bicycles, WiFi access and several state of the art computers are available on the premises.

Residency dates are from Thursday 17 July 2014 to Sunday 3 August 2014.

International performing composers, composing performers, improvising musicians, experimental and creative music-makers, traditional and folk players, singer-songwriters, and sound artists from all musical disciplines and backgrounds who wish to take part in a collaborative music residency are encouraged to apply.

Everyone accepted to Music Omi receives lodging, including a private room, and meals during his or her stay, but note that accepted fellows must secure their own travel funds. All awarded fellows commit to remaining for the entire residency.
