Interfilm Berlin Viral Video Award

Deadline: 31 August 2013
Open to: video makers with a successful viral video
Prize: three prizes of 1000 Euros

Description

Initiated in 2008, the Viral Video Award was created by interfilm Berlin and PR-Agency Zucker.Kommunikation as the first competition for viral videos at a German film festival. In 2011, the Heinrich Böll Foundation joined as a new partner – and in addition to the audience and the jury award – opened the section “Best Political Viral with the themes climate, democracy or justice” endowed with a cash prize of 1000 Eur.

The international competition for virals is held as part of the International Short Film Festival Berlin, organised by interfilm Berlin. Viral Video Award officially kicks off in October when the approx. 20 nominated films can be voted for online by the general public. This award celebrates films with a message. Whether it’s for or against a certain brand, idea or image, the most important factor for our consideration is the film’s ability to convey a message and its effectiveness at spreading throughout the web. Due to its mix of commercial, social and political clips this annual competition is a brilliant contemporary fusion of creativity and local, as well as global engagement.

Eligibility

The competition is open to anyone who created a viral video. Films should communicate either a promotional, political or original message. They should not be older than two years and should have already been successful at spreading the net via direct url, or at least be on the way to doing just that.

Each film must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for application:

  • it must have been especially conceived for internet showing
  • it must aspire to viral distribution
