Description

Youth Crime Watch of Liberia runs the Be The Change Academy in Paynesville, Liberia. This programme, designed by Peace Child International, originally piloted in Kenya, seeks out disadvantaged young women with the germ of a business idea, then trains and mentors them to start and/or build up a viable business plan. The best of these plans will then receive funding from the BTCA’s revolving loan fund. Many young women have ingenious business ideas but lack the skills to translate them into viable business plans. The BTCA seeks young people (especially young women) with business training, competent IT skills and an enthusiasm for developing Green, sustainable Economies in less-developed parts of the world to help translate the dreams of the young women of these regions into practical business propositions. They require two international entrepreneurship trainers who will have following responsibilities:

  • Work with local organizers to adapt the existing training manual into a locally appropriate one.
  • Recruit trainees; run the workshops and execute the Certification process.
  • Work with government and donor officials to secure continuity funding to support ongoing BTCA training
  • Develop and implement a monitoring and impact evaluation system, setting up reliable control groups, developing/adapting questionnaires, writing up reports for sponsors etc.
  • Make sure that deadlines are set and met for the different components of the project.
  • Develop / adapt / update the BTCA website, writing blogs and journals on the project.
  • Fund-raising: identify potential funding sources; write letters and proposals, make phone calls, do pitches with local staff and volunteers to secure new local funding for the BTCA;
  • Research and find out best practice from other local enterprise training and/or micro credit enterprise creation organizations.

Eligibility

  • Degree in business studies desirable.
  • Experience in writing business plans.
  • Business/entrepreneurial background.
  • Some teaching / facilitation experience.
  • Experience working with young disadvantaged women
  • Appetite for hard work and unconditional, 24/7 support for your young trainees
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Ability to learn from local people on the ground that has a wealth of experience in motivating and supporting young disadvantaged people.

Benefits

The International volunteer will be provided with accommodation, meals and pocket money plus health insurance and visa costs. Please note that volunteers must get themselves to the UK for initial training. Flights from the UK and back will be provided.
