Description
Kassel Dokfest – A Unique Film and Media Festival The Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival is a yearly six day event and takes place in Mid-November. The Filmladen Kassel – an organization which is nationally acclaimed for its engaged work in cinema every year – is the organizer of the festival.
All filmmakers, artists, VJs, distributors, producers, gallery owners, universities or institutions are invited to submit their most current works and projects for the 30. Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival . From the selection up to 60 works will be nominated for three of the four prizes of the festival. All works chosen and presented in the exhibition Monitoring are automatically nominated for the award for the best media installation
Eligibility
The organizers are looking for current films, installation concepts and proposals for audiovisual performances and VJ-Sets from the years 2012 and 2013. There is no restriction concerning the length of the submitted work.
Awards
The Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festivals awards prizes in four different categories to films, videos and installations which have been selected for the festival program. Prize money totalling 11,500 € as well as a production grant will be awarded to participating authors and artists. Independent juries decide upon the winners. The juries’ decisions are final.

Categories
Golden Key – Young directors competition documentary film endowed with 5,000 € for an outstanding documentary work of a young director. Eligible documentaries are works of all film and video formats as well of all running times, whose directors have not surpassed their 35th birthday at the time of the completion of the submitted work. The selection committee will nominate up to 15 works of the festival program.
Golden Hercules – Regional competition All formats and genres suitable for the big screen may take part in the competition for the “Golden Hercules”.endowed with 3,000 €. Eligible for the regional competition:
- directors living in Northern Hesse or
- directors studying at Kassel University, the Kassel College of Arts and Design, or a comparable media institution in Northern Hesse or
- projects which have been realized or produced in Northern Hesse.
Golden Cube – Exhibition Monitoring with 3,500 € in prize money
