International Fellowships on the Clore Leadership Programme, UK

Description

The Clore Leadership Programme was set up to develop outstanding cultural leaders and has awarded over 230 Fellowships to outstanding individuals from across the creative and cultural sector.  Fellows come from diverse backgrounds.  They may be working freelance or within organizations, of all types and sizes,  in areas ranging from archives to theatre production, and including visual and performing arts, film and digital media, heritage, creative industries, museums, libraries and cultural policy.

The Clore Leadership Programme offers a number of International Fellowships to exceptional individuals from prioritised countries outside the UK. Scholarships to undertake the International Fellowships are currently funded by two sources: the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Home Affairs Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, through the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

Eligibility

In 2013/14 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will fund up to 4 Chevening Scholarships on the Clore Leadership Programme. Candidates for the scholarships have to be NOMINATED by the British Embassy or High Commission in their country/region.

The nominations are invited from particular areas as identified by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 2013/14 nominations will be invited from Brazil, China, India and Egypt. The deadline for applications for nomination is 22 March 2013.

Candidates interested in being considered for nomination should speak in the first instance either to the Chevening/Arts Officer at the relevant British Embassy or High Commission.

All candidates must have a strong track record in their home country. They should normally have a total of at least 5 years’ paid work experience in the arts and cultural sector, either in employment, self-employment or as a freelance. Potential International Fellows are often well known in their field and must have the potential to become senior leaders. All candidates should be able to demonstrate that they can meet the required Chevening and Clore Leadership Programme eligibility criteria. Details of the Chevening criteria will be provided with the application form from your local British Embassy or High Commission.

Content of programme & budget

The successful candidates will be based in the UK for a period of approximately four months spread over two periods: for between 2-4 weeks in September/October 2013 which will include the first residential leadership course, 23 September to 4 October 2013 and for approximately three months culminating in the second residential leadership course 23 June to 3 July 2014.  

The International Fellows will join the group of Clore Fellows for the two residential leadership courses and will follow a development programme, which will normally include a secondment of around 8 weeks with a cultural organisation, training at business schools and attendance at conferences in the UK.

They will benefit from an individually tailored programme, based in the UK starting in September 2013, which includes:

  • Attendance at two intensive residential leadership courses alongside the Clore Fellows from 23 September to 4 October 2013 and 23 June to 3 July 2014
  • A period of secondment for approximately 8 weeks at a cultural institution in the UK
  • Participation in courses and conferences in the UK

Each International Fellow will have access to a budget of up to £14,000 to cover the costs relating to their programme including two return journeys to the UK from their home base, course and conference fees, travel, accommodation, subsistence, training and development.

Application Process for Chevening Scholarships

Candidates for the awards must complete the Clore Chevening application form (available from your local British Embassy or High Commission) and return it to them with the required supporting documents by 23 March 2013. Applications will not be considered after this date.

Hong Kong Scholarships on the Clore Leadership Programme

In addition the Home Affairs Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, through the Hong Kong Arts Development Council will fund up to 2 Scholarships for potential leaders from Hong Kong. Application is by nomination only.

All candidates must have a strong track record in their home country. They should normally have a total of at least 5 years’ paid work experience in the arts and cultural sector, either in employment, self-employment or as a freelance. Potential International Fellows are often well known in their field of the arts world and must have the potential to become senior leaders.

Application Process for Hong Kong Scholarships

Candidates for the Scholarships must complete the Hong Kong Scholarships application form (available from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council) and return it with the required supporting documents.  All candidates should be able to demonstrate that they can meet the required ‘Hong Kong Scholarship on the Clore Leadership Programme’ eligibility criteria available with the application form from the HKADC .
