Description
The GEM PhD School is an international doctoral programme focussed on questions related to “Globalisation, the EU, and Multilateralism” covering most disciplines within the Social Sciences. It offers an integrated research and training environment set up by 9 leading global universities.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a Masters Graduate Degree or Equivalent. They must submit at least one diploma, which is one of the following:
- A 2-Year Master programme (120ECTS or equivalent)
- A 1-Year Graduate Programme following a prior undergraduate degree if both Diploma’s total at least 300 ECTS or equivalent
- A Single 4-Year University Level Programme offering 300 ECTS or more of relevant courses
English proficiency must be attested:
- Either through a previous English-language diploma
- Or through an internationally recognized proficiency test out of the following: IELTS 7.0+; TOEFL (Paper) 620+; TOEFL (Computer) 260+; TOEFL (iBT) 105+
Any other proof of English proficiency (including the Cambridge English Certificate) is not accepted.
Scholarship
In all its Erasmus Mundus provisions, the European Commission distinguishes two categories of fellowship holders: Category A and Category B. Both of these categories are identical except that Category A are eligible to receive a total of €7500 for travel and the Category B €3000. Beside their lump travel allowance, each fellowship is made up of two further components: operational funds and salary/stipend.
How to apply?
Application must include:
- The completed online Identification AND Scientific Forms
- A maximum 3 pages long Detailed Academic Curriculum Vitae
- Proof of Nationality; for example a scan of your valide passport or ID
- A maximum 4500 words long Personnal Essay detailing your overall PhD Project
- A Certified Copy of the Highest Degree/Diploma obtained
- Certified Copies of ALL Academic Transcripts
- A Proof of English Proficiency
- Two Letters of Recommendation from Academics
You must complete the electronic registration via the GEM Website before the deadline December 20th 2012.Upon completion, you will receive a personalized electronic copy of all of the completed registration forms certifying your electronic submission.
After having submitted your online application, finalizing your application process implies printing out the electronic forms with an eye on compiling a paper-copy of the whole application file – incl. all necessary annexes. The full set of paper-based components is to be bound as a single document and sent in by registered mail to the GEM Central Executive Office in Brussels:
