The European Football Championships is the world’s third largest sport event. Host Cities are visited by fans and tourists from the whole world. People and the atmosphere of Tournament make up this unusual sport event. It is worth getting involved personally together with a Host City and actively engage in the organization of the undertaking.

Volunteering is also a chance to meet new people and establish new, often long-term relations. It is people who had already been involved in the organization of similar events that become volunteers. Their experience provides valuable information on details of the organization of such events.

Volunteers from Host Cities of UEFA EURO 2012™ will be divided into about 10-person groups that will realize tasks in given areas in the city. Such organization provides constant work with people and for people. It enables better integration of volunteers and even better atmosphere at work.

Organizers of the Volunteering have put great emphasis on suitable preparation of volunteers. Therefore, efforts have been made to choose suitable work places and establish the number of volunteers needed for the proper functioning of the system. There are also plans to prepare relevant services and institutions that will directly cooperate with volunteers or make use of their work during the Championships. Thus, all the people engaged in the project will be able to fulfill their tasks in the best possible way.

UEFA EURO 2012™ in Poland is prepared under the slogan „We are all hosts”. Volunteering in the public space serves as an ideal occasion to feel as such host. It is a chance to have direct contact with visitors, i.e. fans and tourists. It is interpersonal contacts with volunteers, nice reception, a warm welcome, and provision of all necessary information that will significantly influence visitors’ way of perceiving our cities and our country.

Another incentive to participation in the project of „Host Cities Volunteer of UEFA EURO 2012™” may consist of a package of benefits provided by organizers for every volunteer:

  • Food – every volunteer will get a hot meal during a work day
  • Host Cities organize accommodation places according to their capabilities and allot them to volunteers who will go through recruitment stages and who are not able to organize accommodation on their own
  • Clothes – all volunteers will wear identical clothes they will keep after the Championships has finished
  • Accident insurance – each volunteer will be provided with accident insurance for the period of work in the territory of a Host City
  • Public transport – volunteers will be provided with a possibility of using zero-fare public transport in the territory of a Host City
  • Trainings – a package of trainings to be participated by all volunteers
  • Portal – one of functions of „Host Cities Volunteer of UEFA EURO 2012™” portal will refer to a social part which provides volunteers with individual contact, exchange of observations and experience, and holding discussions on interesting subjects
  • Volunteer Centre – every Host City will organize its Volunteer Centre dedicated to city volunteers working during the Championships. It will be a meeting place and a place to relax. It will be equipped with computers with access to the Internet and recreational equipment as well as large TV screens that enable the viewers to follow events.
  • Certificate – after the Championship every volunteer will get a certificate specifying his/her scope of duties and trainings he/she attended while preparing for work in the project.

Eligibility

One of the main principles of the project „Host Cities Volunteer of UEFA EURO 2012™” is its openness. Both young and older people, inhabitants of cities and towns, disabled persons can be engaged in the project.

Requirements:

  • full legal age until 30th April 2012
  • conversational English
  • possibility and willingness to devote one’s free time to the participation in the Volunteering project

The requirement of being of full legal age until 30th April 2012 is dictated by safety considerations.

Knowledge of foreign languages will be important at the moment of selecting volunteers to work in concrete thematic areas. For instance, people willing to cooperate with the media should demonstrate the best possible knowledge of English or other foreign languages whereas conversational English will be sufficient for persons applying for a job in the Volunteer Centre.

Duration of volunteers’ work will depend on the scope of their work and current needs that will arise during the Championships. Volunteers will be engaged for a maximum period of about three weeks. Usually they will perform their tasks for no more than 8 hours a day. A shift work system will be applied as far as volunteers’ work is concerned.

1. Please familiarize yourself with the proposed volunteer jobs.

2. Prepare your:

  • Personal ID
  • Photo in PNG or JPG format (you can also do this later)
  • Drivers license (if you have one)

3. The application form includes an English test, which is to be completed together with the form. The test contains 25 questions and takes around 20 minutes to complete.

4. Remember that your attendance at the training is mandatory.
