Erasmus Mundus European Master Scholarships in Data Mining, 2012

The Erasmus Mundus committee has announced a European Master (MSc) scholarship in data mining for the year 2011-2012. The program aims at mastering students with the knowledge of Information technology for handling information, recorded in Datawarehouses or the Web.

The consortium is composed of six universities from four countries: France (University of Pierre and Marie Curie Paris 6, University of Lyon Lumière Lyon 2, Polytec’Nantes), Romania (University Polithenica of Bucharest), Italy (University of East Piedmont) and Spain (Technical University of Catalonia).

Scholarship

Candidates from all over the world may apply to the Master. However, there are differences between European and Non-European candidates for scholarships.

Third countries students may apply to a category A scholarship (24,000 Euros per year), whereas European students may apply to a category B scholarship (11,500 Euros per year). European students, who send their 4-th semester in a third country, will receive an additional lump sum of 3,000 Euros (just one time, not every year).

In addition to the scholarships fundend by the EU, the Consortium adds the following ones:

  • For Non European students: 5 scholarships, each of the amount of 10,000.00 € per year. This amount covers the 8,000.00 € to be payed to the Consortium as fees for ther Master, plus 2,000.00 € as contribution to travel. The grantee has only to provide the means of subsistence by him/herself.
  • For European students: 5 scholarships, each of the amount of 5,000.00 € per year. This amount covers the 4,000.00 € to be payed to the Consortium as fees for ther Master, plus 1,000.00 € as contribution to travel. The grantee has only to provide the means of subsistence by him/herself.

Eligibility

Candidates from any country may apply to the Master. To be eligible to apply for the Master programme DMKM, students must satisfy both the following conditions:

  • Be the holder of a Bachelor degree (a minimum of three years’ study at a university and corresponding to the equivalent of 180 ECTS) in the fields of Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics.
  • Mastering English at a level equivalent to 550 TOEFL.
    In the following table the conversion among different English evaluation systems is reported. The minimum accepted for the European Master DMKM is “TOEFL Paper 550” or equivalent.

Application

Each applicant to the Erasmus Mundus DMKM Master Course, shall :

1. Fill-in the application form online with  personal details, university education and marks obtained, language skills, professional experience, work placements, cultural knowledge obtained from travelling or other means.
2. Indicate whether or not he/she applies for a scholarship;
3. Upload by the indicated deadline all the required documents and proofs:

    • Recent identity photo;
    • Copy of passport of other legal identification document;
    • List of marks obtained during the three-year bachelor course;
    • Syllabus or description of the courses taken in the fields of computer science, mathematics, and statistics in the three-year bachelor course;
    • Obtained certificates or diplomas in foreign languages;
    • A letter describing his/her interests in the field and motivations to enroll in the Master;
    • A CV including a list of previous work placements and professional experience;
    • Three referees’ contacts (e-mail is preferable);
    • Proof of proficiency in English.
