Scholarship for Young Photojournalists

Deadline: 30 June 2011
Open to: full-time photography students and photographers age 24 or under
Prizes: top prize – UK£3,000 (about US$4900) and UK£500 (about US$820) for runners-up

The Ian Parry Scholarship is designed to help young documentary photographers undertake a chosen project and raise their profile in the international photography community. It is named after photographer Ian Parry, who died on assignment in Romania at the age of 24.

Rules

  • At the competition for the scholarships can apply full-time photography students and photographers at the age 24 or under
  • Entrants must submit examples of their work from their portfolio and a brief synopsis of a project they would undertake if they won (sea more details below)
  • The judging is done as a process of elimination, so portfolios are removed from each round depending on their strength as a potential winner

Prizes

The top prize is UK£3,000 (about US$4900) and
UK£500 (about US$820) for runners-up.

The Sunday Times Magazine publishes a selection of images from the competition and World Press Photo automatically nominates the winner for the Joop Swart Masterclass.

An exhibition of the works will be held at the Getty Images Gallery, London, from the 16th August for one week.

Application

The deadline for 2010 Scholarship applications is Friday 30th June 2011.This year will be the first year that the scholarship accepts ONLY digital entries. Please follow the guidelines carefully, only submitting the correct amount of images, application form and proposal of your chosen assignment.
