Successful applicants who are awarded a studentship will join a vibrant community of over 160 social science research students within the Doctoral Training Centre.
The Doctoral Training Centre, in partnership with the University of Plymouth Graduate School, will provide students with an extensive research training programme covering both generic and discipline specific skills.
Applications are expected to demonstrate how they align to the relevant strategic research themes of the University and its associated research centres and networks. Interdisciplinary applications are particularly welcome. Further details about current University Research in each of the disciplines is listed here.
Studentships
Awards are available for three years full-time PhD study. Studentships will commence in October 2011 and will cover Home/EU tuition fees as well as a stipend of £13590 per annum.
Eligibility
Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant social science discipline, and ideally a relevant Master’s degree.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted on the standard postgraduate application form which can be found here. In section 9 of the form (Funding Information) please ensure that you declare that you are applying for a Social Science DTC Studentship, and also indicate which subject area your proposal falls within.
Applications must be accompanied by a research proposal (up to 4 pages) which makes it clear what the research ideas are; which subject area the proposal falls within and how the proposed topic aligns with the research interests and expertise of the relevant subject area within the University of Plymouth.
The deadline for applications is 3rd June 2011. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview. If applicants have not heard from us within five weeks of the deadline they should assume that their application has been unsuccessful.
Applications will be considered by the Doctoral Training Centre Committee which will make judgements based on evidence of the candidate’s research potential, the quality of the research proposal and relevance with regards to the research themes of the Schools within the Doctoral Training Centre.
