Introduction to STONE&WATER and Seoksu Art Project

▪ Supplement Space STONE&WATER is a nonprofit multi-arts space situated near Anyang River and within Seoksu Market. Its aim is to propel various experimental artistic activities and projects through which art and life merge.
The representative projects that STONE&WATER directed in the last 9 years include the opening exhibition “Living Furniture Exhibition” in 2002, “Revival Exhibition” in 2003 which used the old Anyang police station and jail, “2004 Anyang River Project-FLOW” which linked the shut down Samdeok Paper mill and Anyang River, “Seoksu Market Project” from 2005-2006, and “Educational Art Project” from 2006-2007, “Seoksu Art Project” from 2007-2010, “Gyeonggi Young Artist Project” from 2010. Through developing the various art and cultural programs through such activities, STONE&WATER has contributed to the development of art and culture in the local area, having an impact on not only the art world but in many areas of the society.
▪ Since 2007 STONE&WATER has organized a project that merges residency program, festivals, education and volunteer programs under the name “Seoksu Art Project (SAP)”. SAP has been performing the role of a “global” platform of communication. The international residency program facilitates close contact with the local community by transforming the idle space within the traditional Seoksu Market into a creative space.

Eligibility

▪ Professional artist/team (who is not a Korean national) who:
– work actively in the fields of either visual arts, architecture or design
– is able to deal with issues like urban ecology
– is able to carry out works/projects in public areas which induce discourse and interaction with local communities.
– can show commitment to the residency program and is able to plan and operate within the outline of the whole project.
– is able to propose and conduct an art mediation program or an art education program intended for local citizens and/or general audiences.

Provisions

▪ Shared studio and accommodation
▪ Support fund of about 900 USD to cover a part of the expenses for flight, residency and activities
▪ Production fee of about 450 USD

– CV or Resume (include detailed information on your education, list of your exhibitions, publications, awards and residencies)
– Personal Statement
– Personal identification transcript (1 copy of passport).
– A project description of intended activity with goals and objectives during the residency (Please use the prescribed form and it can be obtained by e-mail)).
– A portfolio in the form of digital images containing descriptions of works and image caption: 10-15 images (only as a Jpg file) or approx. 5 minutes length Video works (only as an avi file).

The deadline for receiving applications is April 24, 2011.
