International short contest story: A Sea of Words

Open to: young people under 30 years of age, citizens of the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean space

The Anna Lindh Foundation and the European Institute of the Mediterranean call the third international short contest story “A Sea of Words”, aimed at youths from the 43 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area.

The contest is for the production of short stories focused on personal and social progress and the effort for the construction of more just, egalitarian and inclusive societies, with the objective of showing the different sensibilities and realities experienced in the Euro-Mediterranean region from the point of view of the young people who live there.

Criteria of the story
* The stories must have a maximum of 2,500 words and can be written in any of the official languages of the participating countries.
* They must be completely original works and unpublished.
* The stories must deal with issues related to intercultural dialogue, especially of a political, socio-cultural, economic and environmental nature.

Award
The writers of the 20 best short stories will have their works published and will participate in the following activities:
* Awards ceremony in Barcelona
The writers of the best short stories will be invited to the awards ceremony in Barcelona on 13th and 14th December 2010.
* Cultural activities in Spain
During the awards week, the contest winners will be invited to participate in a literary creation forum and in other cultural visits and events in the cities of Barcelona and Granada.
* International workshops
The contest winners will also be invited to participate in two literary creation workshops organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation in other cities of the Euro-Mediterranean space during the first six months of 2011.

Submission procedure
All interested participant should submit the short stories together with their personal details (name and surname, date of birth, nationality, address, email and telephone) to the following email:  concurso@iemed.org

The submission deadline is 15th of September 2010.

Selection
The national networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation will pre-select the five best stories of each country and provide their translation into English. These stories will be sent to the international jury.

The international jury will have a maximum period of 30 days, from 1st September, to choose the best stories from those pre-selected by the national networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation. In total, 20 stories will receive prizes.
