Deadline: 20/08/2010

FLARE Network presents “OLE – Otranto Legality Experience 2010”, to be held from August 29 to September 3rd  2010 in Otranto (Italy).

OLE 2010 is the first edition of an international forum on “Illegal Economy, Organised Crime and Financial Globalisation” that intends to become a point of reference in Europe for the role of civil societies in modern globalised world and in the fight against organised crime.

The forum consists of seminars, workshops, debates, documentaries and music concerts. Panelists and moderators are professionals and public officers (see the provisional “Panelists” file) from Italy and abroad. OLE is open to 200 participants (see the “Application Form” to apply).

FLARE Network deems it as fundamental to build a training experience able to support processes of social mobilisation concerning the fight against organised crime, in the attempt of creating a sensitive, informed and aware generation, endowed with the skills necessary to positively weigh on the societies of provenance.

OLE 2010 brings the attention on the following thematics: the way political changes since the emergence of the world financial system and the fall of the Berlin Wall have been used by criminal organizations to strengthen and internationalise their activities; the identification and the extent of the gray areas in the workings of the financial and legal economic system which enable criminal powers to infiltrate them; to identify the responsibilities of international organisations, countries, multinational corporations, civil society, and define the actions they can employ against organised crime.
