University of Salzburg is the biggest educational institution in Salzburg. It was founded in 1622 by Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron and today it has around 14 000 students and around 1,600 employees. The university has 4 faculties:  catholic theology, law, sociology, and natural science.

How to apply

International students can apply within the Erasmus mobility programme via an Erasmus Application Form they can download from the official website of the university. The original copy of this form needs to be sent to Reinhard Bachinger (International Relations Office, Kapitelgasse 6, A-5020 Salzburg) by mail before the 31st of August for the winter semester, or before the 31st of January for the summer semester.
After you have received your university’s signature and stamp on this form, please send it to the above mentioned address. Make sure that you have been nominated by your university and that the nomination was sent to the University of Salzburg (International Relations Office, Reinhard Bachinger). This can be done by e-mail, fax, or letter and should consist of your personal data, including the study period at our institution issued by your coordinator or the International Office of your university.
Another possibility you have as an international student is to apply for a university exchange placement. Application for an exchange placement at the University of Salzburg must be made with the appropriate authority at your home university by using our application form for exchange students. Your application documents will then be sent to us by your institutional representative. You also may use the interactive application form; however, if you do so, we still require that the original application form be sent via regular mail.

International students seeking a degree from the University of Salzburg should visit the website of the Student Service Centre. In order to pursue a degree from the University of Salzburg, students will need to have an adequate command of the German language. The University provides German language courses through the Department of German and the University Language Centre.

Student Exchanges and Scholarships

University of Salzburg does not provide scholarships for international students. However, international students can look for a study grant by visiting the website of the Austrian database for scholarships and research grants.
International students can participate in the Erasmus student exchange programme and the exchange placement programme; only between the University of Salzburg and its partner universities. Here you can find the list of partner universities.
