As a center for higher education and research, the University of Lyon consists of 16 institutions of higher education. The University of Lyon has three main universities and a number of member institutions. The three universities are: Claude Bernard University Lyon 1, offering health and science studies with approximately 27,000 students, Lumière University Lyon 2, focusing on the social sciences with about 30,000 students, and Jean Moulin University Lyon 3, providing about 20,000 students with the opportunity to enroll in studies related to the humanities and law.

In addition to the three main universities, University of Lyon has the following member institutions: École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, École normale supérieure lettres et sciences humaines, École Centrale de Lyon, INSA Lyon, Institut d’Administration des Entreprises de Lyon, École National Supérieure des Sciences de l’Information et des Bibliothèques (ENSSIB), École Vétérinaire de Lyon, Université catholique de Lyon, ESDES école supérieure de commerce et management, École de Management de Lyon, Institut National de Recherche Pédagogique (INRP), Institut Polytechnique de Lyon (CPE Lyon, ECAM Lyon, ISARA Lyon, ITECH Lyon), Institut d’études politiques de Lyon, Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres (IUFM), École Nationale des Travaux Publics de l’État.

How to apply

Foreign students make up more than 13% of the whole student community in Lyon. In 2005/2006, Lyon welcomed 16000 foreign students came to Lyon, 2500 of which were there via an exchange program.
