Lisbon University

Lisbon University (UL), Classical University of Lisboa,  is one the oldest public universities in Portugal. It was officially created by a decrete on 22 March 1911, after the fall of the Portuguese monarchy regime, but the history of a university in Lisbon goes back to the 13th century. The University of Lisbon has, currently, an estimated number of 20 000 students and a teaching staff of 1 800 teachers. Traditionally each Faculty has a colour of its own that is used in the gowns of the teaching staff in public academic events, and by the students on their symbols and festivities.

The University provides education in three main cycles – bachelor’s, master’s, doctor´s and PhD in different fields, for instance Medicine, Arts, Sciences, Law, Pharmacy, Social Sciences and Psychology and Educational Sciences.

International Programms

The area of Cooperation and Mobility is under the directorship of the External Relations Office of the External Relations Department at the Rectorate. The External Relations Services – External Relations Division has the purpose of managing and disseminating the information relating to exchange mobility  programmes, EU programmes, as well as agreements and protocols established with both national and foreign entities.

The UL is part of different mobility networks, like Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Tempus and many different researh programs.

Scholarships

The responsable to grant scholarships and accomodation is the Social Actions Services (SAS).  To apply for a scholarship the student has to be enrolled in one of the UL faculties, be a citizen of one EU member State with a visa permit or come from a country whith which a cooperation protocol has been celebrated.
